Functional features

RAID-Z (1,2,3) — robust levels of data protection

Unlike other RAID systems, RAID-Z does not have a fixed «strike» (stripe) size, but rather uses the logical block size of the file system. Each record in a RAID-Z array is a full segment record, which provides reliable data storage. RAID-Z uses diagonal distribution of checksums, which guarantees data integrity and allows to restore information in case of failure of one or more discs. This technology allows fast recovery not only of entire discs, but also of individual data blocks. In case of checksum mismatch, the logical error is instantly detected and corrected. Through the use of caching and optimised data access, RAID-Z provides high performance when reading and writing data.

Thin Provisioning — optimises performance, extending the life of SSD drives

Unlike traditional hard drives, SSDs store data in flash memory cells grouped into pages. Writing to SSDs is very fast as long as blank pages exist, but slows down considerably when pre-written pages need to be cleared. TRIM technology is designed to reduce the impact of rubbish collection on write performance.

Snapshots — without performance impact and independent of volume size

Snapshots protect the data on the volume and provide ReadOnly storage to ensure integrity and prevent accidental damage or deletion of the original data. Creating and deleting Snapshots does not affect overall system performance, ensuring uninterrupted operation of applications and services. They allow you to quickly roll back a volume to a previous state, which speeds up the recovery process in case of failures or errors.

Inline-Compression — saves space and reduces the number of write operations

Inline-Compression reduces the amount of data stored, decreasing the amount of space required and reducing the load on the disc system. It protects data from loss or corruption, and in the event of a failure, compressed data can be quickly recovered because it takes up less space and requires fewer resources to recover. The ratio can vary with the type of data and the compression algorithms configured, however, it is typically between 2:1 and 4:1.

Inline-Deduplication — reduces data volumes and optimises data storage

Deduplication is performed immediately when data is written to the disc, avoiding the storage of duplicate data and saving space immediately. Depending on the size and type of data being written, Inline-Deduplication can provide a deduplication ratio of up to x3.

TRIM (Deallocate) support — optimises performance, extending the life of SSD drives

Unlike traditional hard drives, SSDs store data in flash memory cells grouped into pages. Writing to SSDs is very fast as long as blank pages exist, but slows down considerably when pre-written pages need to be cleared. TRIM technology is designed to reduce the impact of rubbish collection on the performance of write operations. However, TRIM is an ATA interface command, and the equivalent in NVMe protocols is the Deallocate command. It allows the operating system to notify the SSD which blocks of data (pages) are not useful and may not be physically stored.

QoS — workload control and prioritisation

With QoS, storage administrators can manage the prioritisation of access to storage resources data. This helps ensure the right level of service for users and applications, preventing unplanned overloads and protecting key services from degradation.

Monitoring — AutoSupport alerts and performance monitoring system

The integrated monitoring system provides centralised management and control of all storage components. There is no longer a need for routine equipment monitoring. With automated data collection and instant alerts, the administrator will be informed of failures as soon as possible, and the system will perform self-diagnostics and indicate errors in advance. The interface provides the ability to create visual performance graphs for any component of the system, which allows you to identify and eliminate problems in a timely manner, as well as optimise the use of resources.

Safety — role-based access model for system management

ITPOD Storage implements a role-based management system access model, which is based on assigning specific roles to users. Roles are based on organisational structure, functional responsibilities or a combination of both. This model is the most flexible and perfect among other models of access to information systems. The user must go through a process of authentication (entering a username and password) and authorisation (checking the permissions granted) before accessing resources.

Ease of maintenance — intuitive graphical web interface

The graphical interface makes it easy to navigate and manage the storage system, making the maintenance process simpler and more accessible to users with varying levels of technical expertise. It also provides tools to assess storage system health, analyse resource usage and monitor performance.

Enterprise Support — comprehensive approach in solving any issues
