FAN (fan)

A fan is a device that creates airflow to cool electronic components. It is used to reduce the temperature inside the system unit and prevent overheating.

Functions:

  • Cooling: Fans remove heat from heated components such as processors, video cards, and power supplies. - Airflow: Create air circulation inside the computer case for efficient cooling.

Types of fans:

  • CPU Fan: Specifically designed to cool the CPU and usually plugs into the CPU Fan connector on the motherboard.
  • Chassis (Cha) Fan: Case fans that circulate air inside the computer case.
  • Sys Fan: System fans that can be used to cool various components such as the chipset or hard disk drive. - Pwr Fan: Rarely seen, used to cool the power supply.

Characteristics:

  • Size: The larger the diameter of the fan, the better it cools.
  • Rotation Speed: Higher speeds provide stronger airflow.
  • Connector Type: Fans can have different types of connectors to connect to the motherboard, such as 3-pin or 4-pin connectors.
