HDD - hard disk drive (Hard Disk Drive)

HDD (Hard Disk Drive) is a storage device that uses rotating magnetic disks to write and read data. It is also known as a hard disk drive or a hard disk drive.

The main characteristics of an HDD include:

Capacity:

  • The amount of data that can be stored on a disk varies from 500 GB to 10 TB or more.

RPM:

  • Usually 5400 or 7200 rpm, which affects the speed at which data can be read and written.

Interface:

  • Determines the communication speed between the disk and the system, common interfaces are SATA, SAS, and ATA.

Form factor:

  • The physical size of the drive, such as 3.5 inches for desktops and 2.5 inches for laptops. ### Recording density: - The number of bits of information per unit area of the disk, affects capacity.

Cache memory:

  • Speeds up reading and writing data by temporarily storing frequently used data. The way HDDs work is by using magnetic platters on which data is written using read heads. These heads move over the disks at a distance of a few nanometers without touching the surface, which ensures a long life of the device. HDD is a non-volatile device, i.e. it stores data even in case of power failure.
